1. The Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi is the oldest traditional running event held in Estonia, dating from 1928. This year it will be held for the 87th time.

2. The 87th Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi (hereinafter the 87th Race) is organised by the municipality of Viljandi in cooperation with the Organising and Competition Committee and with the help of sponsors and supporters.

3. The 87th Race is organised according to the race regulations of the Estonian Athletic Association and these Regulations.

4. The 87th Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi shall take place on 1 May 2016. Mass start will be given at 12.00 on Viljandi Town Stadium, and finish is on Viljandi Town Stadium. Participants who have registered for the run are not allowed to use walking poles.

5. Route choice is free, but there are two checkpoints at the two ends of Lake Viljandi – on the hiking trail bridge at Orika (4.8 km) and Viiratsi (10.2 km). For safety reasons, about 400 m before the first checkpoint all participants are guided to the health track going round the lake. There are two intermediate timing points – at Huntaugu hill (1.5 km) and on Orika bridge (4.8 km). Along the course, there are three refreshment stations. The length of the course is approximately 12 km.

6. The course of the 87th Race runs mainly on gravel roads and forest tracks and in some parts on asphalt roads. The roads are open for traffic. For safety reasons the participants must observe traffic rules, follow traffic signs and regulations from traffic regulators.

7. Participation in the Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi is at one’s own responsibility. Participation is allowed for all athletes born 2003 or earlier, who are sufficiently trained for this distance. As an exception, also younger participants (born 2004-2005) are allowed, if they register together with parent and run at the parent’s responsibility.

8. Age groups:
Women: N14 (2002-2003); N16 (2000-2001); N18 (1998-1999); N21 (1982-1997); N35 (1977-1981);N40 (1972-1976); N45 (1967-1971); N50 (1962-1966); N55 (1957-1961); N60 (1952-1956); N65(1947-1951); N70 (1946 and earlier).

Men: M14 (2002-2003); M16 (2000-2001); M18 (1998-1999); M21 (1982-1997); M35 (1977-1981); M40 (1972-1976); M45 (1967-1971); M50 (1962-1966); M55 (1957-1961); M60 (1952-1957); M65 (1947-1951); M70 (1942-1946); M75 (1937-1941); M80 (1936 and earlier).

Start groups are formed, taking into consideration the results achieved in Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi in 2015 and in 2014, if registration is made earlier than 14 April 2016. However, we cannot guarantee that the participant receives the same start number or place in the corresponding start group. In the case of later registration, athletes are placed in start groups on an ongoing basis.

Elite group is formed of athletes who belonged to the Top 100 in the Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi in 2015

Each participant shall start from the start corridor corresponding to his/her start number. Athletes starting from a wrong corridor shall be disqualified.

10. Registration to the 87th Grand Race Round Lake Viljandi starts on 1 January 2016.
Online registration on Sportos.eu home page at www.sportos.eu will be available until 27 April 2016 at 24.00.

Registration in the Race Office in Viljandi Sports School at Vaksali str. 4, Viljandi on weekdays 10.00-14.00 from 1 February to 25 April 2016.
On 28 and 29 April 12.00-18.00 in the lobby of Viljandi Sports Hall.
On 30 April 12.00-18.00 in the Race Centre tent next to Viljandi Stadium.

On the race day, 01 May 2016 registration is available from 9.00-11.30 in the registration tent of the Race Centre next to Viljandi Stadium.

On 28 - 30 April 2016 registration is available at stage IV price (25 EUR) on site only!
In the case of non-participation the fee is not refunded.

NB! Recipients of special pensions born later than 1956 are entitled to the discounted rate for those born 1956 and earlier in registration stage I, II and III. To register at the extra price, please contact organisers by e-mail at suurjooks@viljandi.ee.

12. Re-registration takes place only in the Race Office and on 1 May 2016 at the start 9.00-11.00. Re-registration fee is 15 EUR. Athletes who start under wrong name shall be disqualified.

13. Start materials are issued on 30 April 12.00-18.00 and on 01 May 9.00-11.30 in the Race Centre’s registration tent on Viljandi Stadium.

14. Participation fee includes: medal for 100 best finishers (awarded according to the finish list), participation medal for all finishers (issued right after the finish), information sheet, start bib, electronic timekeeping, place in the finish report, sport drinks and water in refreshment stations and at finish, award ceremony, diploma, medical service if needed, use of sauna for women in Viljandi Sports Hall and for men in Viljandi Town Sauna in Kaalu street.

15. Electronic chip timing is used. Further information on timekeeping is available on participant information sheet. Each participant is responsible for the chip as soon as he/she receives it with the start materials. If the chip is not used, the participant’s intermediate and finish time cannot be registered in the race finish report.

16. Initial unofficial results are made public on the information board at the main gates to the stadium. Official results are published online at www.viljandijarvejooks.ee.

17. Award ceremony shall be held at finish at 14.00. The best 10 men and 6 women of the race, as well as winners in intermediate timing points and winners of age groups are awarded.

18. Medical aid is organised by the Organising Committee according to the plan. There is qualified medical staff and an ambulance car in the start/finish area. Participants who notice anyone in trouble on the race course: please inform the organisers at the next refreshment station, or the medical staff along the course or call 112.

19. Protests concerning race results, breach of the Race Regulations etc. must be submitted to Race Jury: for the first 100 finishers within 1 hour after the 100th participant has finished, and concerning all the others, before the closing time of the finish. The protest fee (excl. for protests concerning results) is 50 EUR, which is refunded in case the protest is accepted. All written protests concerning the race shall be settled by Race Jury.

20. Lost and found items are kindly asked to be taken to the Race Office at finish. Owners can receive their lost and found items in the Race Office and later in Viljandi Sports Hall within 1 month after the race.

21. All protests concerning the race shall be settled by Race Jury. The Jury includes the Head Referee, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee, and the Chief of Timekeeping.

22. Other cases not specified in these Regulations shall be solved by the Organising Committee on an ongoing basis.

12th  WALKING REGULATIONS – 1 May 2016

1. The 12th Walking is organised by the municipality of Viljandi in cooperation with the Organising and Competition Committee and with the help of sponsors and supporters.

2. 12th Nordic Walking is organised according to these Regulations.

3. 12th Nordic Walking shall take place on 1 May 2016. Mass start at 12.10 on Viljandi Town Stadium, finish on Viljandi Town Stadium. Nordic Walking is not a competitive event and ranking is not determined. However, times are recorded. Results are reported in the alphabetical order.

4. Route choice is free, but there are two checkpoints at the two ends of Lake Viljandi – on the hiking trail bridge at Orika (4.8 km) and Viiratsi (10.2 km). For safety reasons, about 400 m before the first checkpoint all participants are guided to the health track going round the lake. 12. Running is not allowed in the Nordic Walking event. After given the second warning by the race course referee, the competitor will be disqualified.

13. Medical aid is organised by the Organising Committee according to the plan. There is qualified medical staff and an ambulance car in the start/finish area. Participants who notice anyone in trouble on the race course are asked to inform the organisers at the next refreshment station, or the medical staff along the course or call 112.
