1 December 2025 marks the moment that all running enthusiasts and movement lovers have been eagerly waiting for — registration has officially opened for the legendary 97th Great Race around Lake Viljandi!
This is one of Europe’s longest-standing traditional mass participation races, with a history reaching back nearly an entire century. It is not just a race — it is a living tradition, carried forward year after year by thousands of participants, spectators, and people inspired by the pure joy of movement, passed on from generation to generation.
The organizers are already looking toward the future: In 2028, the race celebrates 100 years of history and in 2029, runners will make the iconic journey around the lake for the 100th time.
The 100th Great Race will not be just another start — it will stand as a symbol, a milestone, a centennial celebration, uniting generations of runners and movement enthusiasts in a truly unforgettable way.
The course is largely unmarked and shaped differently each year by spring itself. The route conditions are written by nature, creating an experience that cannot be measured in kilometers, only in memories.
